How Indian mobile number series work
Indian mobile numbers are 10 digits long and start with 6, 7, 8 or 9. The first four digits (the series) tell you which carrier and telecom circle originally issued the number. India has 22 telecom circles, each served by operators like Airtel, Jio, BSNL and Vodafone.
Through Mobile Number Portability (MNP), people can switch carriers and keep their number. So the series shows the original allocation, not necessarily who the number is with today. Use phndir to check the live carrier for any specific number.
